Powerpuff Girls hogging at Cafe Mojo Jojo

A jolly whoop for young crowd of Bhopal! Do you love food? Do you love cartoons? Do you remember Cartoon Network? And, do you remember Mojo Jojo from Power Puff Girls? If yes, then you’ll understand my references. I’m writing about none other than the food joint in Bhopal, Cafe Mojo Jojo

Just to tell you more, me along with my school friend, Bhavya Rathi  who happens to be a beauty blogger (Gloshup Blog) and my younger sister Nishtha, thought of chilling with some good food. Dropping at Cafe Mojo Jojo was more like Powerpuff girls visiting in hunt of Mojo Jojo.

This brand new cafe takes spending some chilled-out time too seriously. From the games to the food. Everything is comforting.

Decor

Located in E7 arera colony, this place is a proper house which is converted into a cafe. They have  alfresco dining (sitting out) too. But, it gets too hot during summers. Furniture is pretty simple, chairs, benches and sofas with cushions. I got a chance to sit inside, wherein, the table and sofa was big enough to accommodate 6-8 people. The walls are painted light in colour with different wall arts. I particularly loved the wall where I was sitting which was covered with wooden branches. Quit fancy and eye catchy. The ambience is absolutely chilled out. Come here with your friends, sit for hours. Either play games like Snakes & Ladder, UNO, Jenga, Chess or do boxing. If you’re still not happy, gossip with your friends! That sure might interest you. lol

One thing I ‘disliked’ about the whole place was that there was No Fan or Air Conditioner. In a month like March wherein the summer has just started, my girls and I were feeling hot, in spite of the fact that we were sitting inside. Imagine the condition in months like April & May.

Food

Cheese Stuffed Mushrooms

Delicious appetiser with a kick!! With fragrant garlic, bell pepper and loads of cheese, these delectable stuffed Portobello mushrooms make the perfect canapés. The mushrooms, when baked with this amazing filling, transform into a fantastic starter. The Cheesy Mushrooms served hot off the oven, while the cheese is still molten, that makes it the most appealing finger food. Highly Recommended!!

Fusilli Pasta

You must have tried pasta in white sauces, red sauces and even green sauces. But, have you ever tried one in an alluring pink sauce? Fusilli in Pink Sauce is a memorable treat. You will be surprised to know that the pink sauce gets its colour not from beetroot or any pink ingredient, but by the interplay of the many other coloured ingredients used in its preparation. Before ordering I was told that this pasta has ‘pink’ sauce. Now that’s a combination of red sauce and white creamy sauce that’ll give it a pinkish colour. It wasn’t really pink. It was reddish-creamy sauce. But, certainly not pink! Good on taste and can be ordered again!

The Protein Burger Meal

For the name that amazed me the most, as it was “Protein” Burger meal.

I had really high hopes as I thought this is going to be something astonishing and something I can look forward to. The time it arrived, it was looking more like a McDonald’s Burger. But, taste wise is certainly better. There wasn’t something extra-ordinary with this Protein Burger. It had Paneer (Cottage Cheese) Patty, cheese slice, veggies and was accompanied with French fries and sprite. Tasted good but nothing amazing or different.

Princess Shake

The first thing that I asked before ordering this shake was, that does it really look like the pictured displayed on the menu? Because the name and the picture both look very dreamy and might take you back to your childhood memories of fantasying about princesses. After due consideration I finally, ordered this Princess Shake. Few Points to note over here. They’ve tried to work on their presentation, but the time it came to my table the decoration of gems and icing on it started flowing. The milkshake was made with Ice cream and strawberry syrup. Now, if you mix Ice-Cream which is already sweet with strawberry syrup, that adds all the more sweetness to the milkshake. A glass of this milkshake and you might get high on sugar for a while. Presentation needs a lot of improvement. I’ve given the suggestion to the owner about this and I certainly hope for a better outcome next time. 🙂

India – In – A – Bowl

Say hello to Ghar Jaisa Khaana.

Buttery Rajma Chawal

Rajma Chawal  needs no introduction. It is one of the most popular dish across North India and let me also tell you, it is one of my all time favourite dish and I call it my comfort food. I’ve been grown up eating this and I myself make rajma quite often. A tangy preparation of rajma is combined with cooked rice added to it fresh homemade white butter made it absolutely lip-smacking. Though I personally felt that the flavours of spices could have been enhanced but I feel, everyone has a different version of Rajma Chawal so no complaining!! 🙂

Gatta Curry and Malabar Paratha

Gatta curry is a very popular and traditional curry coming straight from the kitchens of Rajasthan.

Rajasthani cooking in general has its own unique flavour where the simplest and the most basic of ingredients go into the preparation of delicious dishes. This Gatta Curry was made with gram flour dumplings flavoured with dry spices, which were steamed and then dunked into a yoghurt based curry.

Malabari Paratha is a layered flatbread made from refined flour or maida which hails from Kerala. It is rolled in a special way using a lot of oil for greasing. This gives it a characteristic texture that is flaky and slightly crisp. I’ve been living in South for a good amount of time so I was very particular about this thing. A good Malabar Paratha is flaky yet fluffy, crisp yet soft but it was a disappointment to me because it was a little hard and it didn’t had ghee or oil over it which made it very dry.

Fried Ice-Cream

By this time we were full and were dicey to try something else so we then called for fried ice cream because it won’t be very heavy on our palettes.

The ultimate fried treat is the one that sounds almost too good to be true. Yes, it’s time for fried ice cream! it is made from a breaded scoop of ice cream that is quickly deep-fried creating a warm, crispy shell around the cold ice cream.

Minus Points

  1. As mentioned above, there was no air conditioner or fan. Too hot for summers.
  2. As soon as we sat, I noticed that the table wasn’t clean. Soon, when I had a look at the whole cafe, I could easily spot dirt around the corners. Hygiene is one of the most important factor for any cafe.
  3. Staffing is a Major issue. I could only see the owner and one helper for taking orders and serving.
  4. Presentation: They really need to buck up! Presentation for any kind of dish is highly important in F&B industry and I urge them to work on it. I can understand that the food costing certainly must be a problem but this is something that can be improved at a very low cost too.

My point

I was happily flabbergasted by this trendy Non-Hookah Cafe. The ambience and comfort fare over here is something I liked a lot.  Comfort food is something I can look forward to but there is big room for improvement. I’ve had a good discussion with the owner and I literally want to give him some extra brownie points for being so flexible enough to take feedbacks so positively and yet doing the service by himself. I look forward to visit this place again and I expect them to improve. 🙂

Chatori Meter: 2.5 for the cafe. Plus one for the owner’s hard work. 🙂 3.5/5

I hope you all liked my review.

Till then, Happy Hogging!!
