The award winning Chef Akash Chattopadhyay, has come up with a specially Curated Chinese set menu that tells a story from every region of china. Chinese cuisine enjoys the distinction of being the most popular in the world.
For those who love the Indianized Chinese for its spices, this menu is for them.
Hang On! The dishes are “Not Indianized” over here. Rather it’s the powerful mix of Garlic, Onions, Sichuan Peppers and Chinese sauces. The sweet, sour, pungent, hot , salty and spicy flavours are incorporated deftly in all Chinese dishes.
I started off my Dinner with Chinese soups.
Zed Corn Soup
This Chinese style soups is a big warm hug in a bowl. Made with cream corn, fresh corn kernels and spinach. White pepper powder perfectly complements the delicious sweetness of the corn. This thick vegetable sweet corn soup is comfort food for the soul.
Tom Yum Soup
Tom Yum is characterised by its distinct hot and sour flavours, with fragrant spices and herbs generously used in the broth. The basic broth is made of fresh ingredients such as lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, galangal, lime juice and crushed chilli peppers.
Starters
Hunan Tofu
Hunan cuisine, also known as Xiang cuisine originating from western Hunan province in China is one of the Eight Great Traditions of Chinese cuisine and is well known for its hot spicy flavour, fresh aroma and deep colour. The Hunan tofu therefore had a thick pungent flavour and was spicy along with deep brown colour.
Tempura
Tempura is basically a Japanese dish of seafood or vegetables that have been battered and deep fried consumed, with Soy Sauce. Light, crispy and made to perfection.
Chilli Padi Corn
I became a big fan of this particular dish. The crispy corns kernels are seasoned with salt and pepper with a dusting of corn flour. Simple yet so delicious in taste.
Dim sums
Dim sum refers to a Cantonese style of food prepared as small bite-sized portions. It is a good demonstration of the chef’s artistry to make these translucent dumplings. Beautifully crafted and marvellous in taste! Make sure to try the sauces provided with it.
Main Course
BMB with Malaka Sauce
The BMB with Malaka Sauce is a sure shot hit for your taste buds. It has Baby Corn, Green spring onion, Mushrooms, broccoli and Sichuan peppers. They are quite the mouthful with each bite, which explode into a juicy, first tangy and then spicy and then a pleasant mix of the two range of flavours!
French beans in Sambal Sauce
Sambal is an Indonesian sauce which is hot and typically made from a mixture of variety of chilli peppers with secondary ingredients such as shrimp paste, fish sauce, garlic, ginger, palm sugar, lime juice, and rice vinegar etc. French Beans with Sambal Sauce is a spicy dish with extremely strong flavours and a great dish to indulge on.
Potatoes, Green Peppers & Eggplant
The Eggplant, potatoes and green peppers in Schezwan sauce served in the most wonderful way. The eggplant has truly been elevated here, keeping in mind whether, you are a fan of this vegetable or not, you’re sure to like it!
Stir Fried Vegetables
I’m a huge fan of Stir-fried vegetables. The flair with which the ingredients were tossed and the aroma that aroused from the ingredients was just divine. The vegetables were cooked moderately and therefore they retained their original texture and flavour.
Vegetable Singapore Noodles
These were Singapore-style noodles of stir-fried rice vermicelli seasoned with curry powder, Vegetables/ Eggs/ Chicken/ Prawns. These translucent, pretty looking rice noodles will just melt in your mouth. Flavoured with Asian flavourings like cumin and coriander, these noodles are sure to satisfy your taste buds.
Three Peppers Schezwan Fried Rice
Originating from the Sichuan province of China, Schezwan cuisine is characterised by bold flavours, brought about by pungent ingredients like garlic and chillies. For those who love the lip-smacking fieriness of Schezwan cuisine, this is a must try for you. The delectable blend of three different peppers is enough to satiate Indianized taste buds. At this point, I began to feel a slight tingling sensation in my mouth and a few alarm bells rang sooner and I realized that it was the Sichuan peppers playing their magic.
Desserts
Lychees with Ice Cream
Lychees have a very sweet taste and have a wonderful freshness of their own. The Strawberry Ice Cream accompanied it well.
Date Pancake
Out of all the things I tried from the menu, the date pancake was a clear winner for me. Fried layers of dough with a date filling. This is a traditional Chinese dessert and is served hot along with ice-cream. The dates will actually melt in your mouth and all the pepper alarming bells with automatically snooze. A perfect dessert to end the meal!!
