Sunday Brunch at Jehan Numa Palace
As the weekend slips through, commencing a new week with a lazy Sunday morning, you might happen to skip breakfast. To chase down those mid morning hunger pangs, a perfect Sunday Brunch is what will set the right mood for the day. So if you have no plans for your Sunday afternoons head to Shahnama at Jehan Numa Palace for an elaborate Sunday brunch.
The newly renovated Shahnama restaurant is all set to give everyone a luxurious experience. The place welcomes its guests with the assurance of stringent health, safety, and hygiene measures. Reinforcing its globally acknowledged Responsible Luxury ethos that seeks to create a better and secure world.
The restaurant is newly renovated with contemporary décor and a bouquet of signature services to elevate the overall experience. Holding on to the spirit and traditions of the Jehan Numa Palace, the design reflects a charming juxtaposition of colonial architecture and modern simplicity. Also launching the al fresco dining experience which is accentuated by lush foliage and is something worth experiencing. This cheerful and culturally rich restaurant offers a fine spread of Indian and inventive international cuisine in a spacious and affable ambience.
Guests have a plethora of choices, including live grills, unlimited drinks and a lavish buffet spread.
As soon as I entered the restaurant I was welcomed with drinks and Street Food live station standing right at the entrance. Indian street style counter serving mind boggling Chats such as Dahi Puri, Pani Puri, Papdi Chat etc. Then the fantastic Pizzas, momos, tacos and nachos to nibble on.
Salads:
The salads and cold cuts are my favourite way to start on a buffet and Jehan Numa Palace does not disappoint in both. I started with Caesar salad, moving towards a customized salad of my choice and Sprouts Salad.
Drinks:
What is a brunch without some good drinks? Often at the onset of making brunch a success lies equally on the shoulders of the bartender as it does on the chef.
The bar tender presented its Signature Drinks named Bhopal Wanderer, Ginger house wine, Pineapple mojito, Mint julep, Hawaiian goodies and Appletini rosti. The real essence was the mix of flavours that came out really well.
Starters
Hari mirch ka paneer tikka, Karare dal ki tikki and Ajwini mahi tikka: The kebabs and tikkas are cooked using high temperatures in the tandoor which is a traditional clay pot heated with coal fire. The flavours which emerge are a delicious combination of smoky yet subtle while the textures are rich, soft and succulent. Good on taste and made to perfection.
Moving forward towards the soup, pan asian, continental and live grills section, I had a hard time selecting what all would fit into my plate. 😛
Chicken Pizza Indiana and Vegetable Garden Style Pizza: India meets Italy in this unique Indiana Pizza! P.S. Thin Crust – Check!! Thin crust pizza is perfect for a pizza lover like me who prefers to taste more of the sauce, cheese, and other toppings. An assortment of veggies along with chicken was richly flavoured, marinade and then sautéed to intensify the flavour. Highly Recommended!
Grilled cottage cheese with black pepper sauce: This dish had bursts of flavors. Even if you’re not a cottage cheese fan, you’ll still enjoy it. It’ll tease and appease your taste buds. Relish it with Fried rice.
Burnt garlic fried rice: Rice stir fried with vegetables and mix of Chinese sauces are an absolute delight. I paired it with Grilled cottage cheese with black pepper sauce and it tasted brilliant.
Sundried pesto gnocchi: An Italian dumpling made from potato and flour is one of my most favourite Italian dishes. Add to it the creamy pesto with sundried tomatoes and you’ve won my heart right there!!
Sautéed vegetables: Just in case we have some clean eaters and health conscious people they have sautéed vegetables for them too.
Vegetable Bhutanese momos and Bhutanese chicken momos: Momos, originating from Tibet is a hugely popular street food in the country, largely in North-India and other neighbouring regions. A versatile food that loved by masses. Momos were made with plain flour cover filled with sautéed veggies and chicken.
Spiced vegetable noodles: A popular Chinese preparation of stir-fried noodles which are topped up with luscious gravy filled with sauteed vegetables. It is simple, colourful, delicious and flavourful. It pretty much begs to be gobbled up, but you’ll want to be sure to savour each and every bite.
Hot dog and sliders with chicken sausage: Just incase you are looking for something more you have more options such as sliders and hot dogs.
Indian Mains:
Nimona: A very popular green peas dish. A lost recipe from North India and widely consumed in UP.
Khadhai Paneer: A tantalizing dish with aroma of spices cooked with tomatoes, capsicum and onion giving it a good texture. This flavourful dish paired with buttery naan is oh, so good! 😀
Murgh mukhana korma: A heavenly delight for non-vegetarians. The robust flavour makes it all the more enticing.
Gosht biryani & Subz biryani : The rice was cooked on low flame and therefore the aroma & strong flavours along with spices did the magic.
Some other dishes to try Dal tadka, Hare moong ki dal, Macher jhol, Palak gosht, Gulki masala and Aloo gobi adraki.
Desserts:
No better way to end the feast with delicate and alluring desserts. It is elegantly placed and is the first thing you see when you enter the buffet area. You will straight away know what to keep room for! 😉
This particular section is a place which makes me happy as well as sad.
Happy because so many desserts to devour. Sad, because even if I try I cannot eat each and every dessert and will have to give it a pass. Precisely, one of the most heart breaking situations when you want to but you can’t.
Nevertheless, I tried and again played over here by taking small pieces of whatever could fit in my small plate. 😛
Sheer kurma, Jehan Numa Palace’s Signature Bade gulab jamun, Indrani were some of the Indian Desserts that I tried and I was completely satisfied with the taste.
Chocolate gateaux, Butterscotch gateaux, baked yogurt, Caramel custard, Chocolate tea cake, Mini Strawberry cheese cake, Red velvet pastry and Ice cream were some of the western desserts that I tried out of which Butterscotch gateaux was the winner for me followed by the simple chocolate tea cake.
But, I loved the waffles the most! That should be tagged as m winner dessert! I always look for a winner dish amongst the desserts I try at brunches and finally I found one.
I was almost feeling bloated by then and had to stop eating!!
Nevertheless, I had an incredible time at the brunch and I completely enjoyed. The food was gorgeous and drinks were revitalizing. Service is always impeccable. Book your tables now.
Till then, Happy Hogging!
Thank you , Mr. Shaji Thomas for the invite.
Thank you, Chef Jivan, Mr. Mayank & team for a magnificent experience.
I enjoyed myself and can’t wait to come back! 😀
P.S. The author was invited for the dinner and the reviews are personal.
